In this multi-format workshop, families who are considering adopting a child from CAS care or internationally, parents who have adopted and adoption professionals will explore how to strengthen the attachment relationship between parent and child.
Some areas covered are:
how a parent's attachment history and style affect attachment in their children
how traumatized children are affected by early trauma and neglect
"therapeutic" versus "typical" parenting
what supports are needed from the outset and how to get them
This large group format will also include some small group discussion as well as presentations from families who have adopted children.
Each participant will receive a disk of related resources.

Mary Jo Land, BA, CPT, Psychotherapist and Play Therapist
Mary Jo is a play therapist and child focussed psychotherapist as well as Vice President of ATTACh- Association for Training and Treatment of Attachment in Children.
Mary Jo has a clinical practice with a focus on supporting children to resolve early childhood trauma and facilitating secondary attachments of children with foster and adoptive families. She is an accomplished trainer on the education of parents and professionals about child psychotherapy, child trauma and attachment.
