Your permanency journey has so many layers regardless of whether it is through the Children’s Aid Society, private domestic, or intercountry adoption. Navigating a system which can be bogged down with bureaucracy adds further challenges. Seeing our children’s pain rooted in their developmental trauma in the course of your day-to-day parenting is challenging to cope with. As a clinician who has experienced the permanency journey myself and with extensive training and experience in the field, I would be delighted to connect with you and walk this multifaceted path together. I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). Additionally, I am a registered Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) Facilitator.

Supplementary Information: I am a proud adoptive parent of 2 beautiful children who joined our family through the child welfare system. My children are the greatest teachers I must say! They changed my entire worldview, the way I form relational connections with others, and how I evolve my clinical work through the lens of children and youth who experienced developmental trauma. I am also a member of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. As a racialized queer clinician, my own experiences inform my practice to support those whose gender, sexual, and racial identities are oppressed and silenced by our society. I am currently working as a mental health counsellor within a multidisciplinary allied health professional setting at a post-secondary institution supporting youth and young adults struggling with moderate to acute mental health challenges. Additionally, I am an independent practitioner for one of the major Canadian teletherapy companies providing counselling and EAP services. I have experience in the field of mental health, adoption, child protection practice, addictions & harm reduction, Indigenous social services (family violence interventions), child welfare policy research, and children’s mental health & advocacy. I am trained in the following clinical modalities and/or practice models. I may use one or more of these approaches with you to guide our therapeutic relationship and bring desired changes and knowledge for your journey. Please note that the list below is not exhaustive, but serves to highlight some of my ongoing professional development. Attachment Focused Family Therapy / Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework: Treating Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents / Acceptance and Commitment Therapy / Affirmative Therapy (Gender and Sexuality) / Circle of Security Parenting and Interventions / Cognitive Behavior Therapy / Collaborative Problem Solving Approach (Think:Kids) / Compassion Focused Therapy / Dialectical Behavior Therapy / Dr. Neufeld’s Attachment Based Developmental Approach / Emotionally Focused Therapy / Motivational Interviewing / Nonviolent Crisis Intervention / Relational Psychotherapy / Solution-Focused Brief Therapy & Counselling / The 3-5-7 Model: Supporting the Work of Children, Youth and Families Toward Permanency
