Benefits to being a Prospective Adoptive Parent on AdoptOntario

Date: May 8, 2020 Author: Ellen Igumnova Categories: AdoptOntario

AdoptOntario is excited to support you during your adoption journey. So, let’s get started!

Below are a number of ways you can get started in learning about some of Ontario’s waiting children, i.e. children in foster care waiting for an adoptive family. Watch our video.

First, let’s define a few key terms:

CAS: Children’s Aid Society (Where permanency or social workers seek kinship, group or adoptive homes for children who are not returning to their original families.)

AdoptReady Family: A single person or a couple who are applying to adopt, who have completed a Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) homestudy and Parent Resource for Information, Development and Education (PRIDE) training.

Waiting Children Photolisting

You can preview child biographies, photos and videos, if you are AdoptReady. For those of you who are just getting started or are underway, you can view a limited profile. Are you AdoptReady – but don’t see child photos? To get photo and video access, please have your adoption worker email us at to verify that you have completed a SAFE homestudy and PRIDE training. View profiles here.

Resource Family

A child profile is sent to you by email, if your family matches the needs of the child we are recruiting for. The more up-to-date and comprehensive your account information is, the better the match we can make.

Kids Korner

This option has two parts. You can visit our website to read all the child profiles here. Or you may receive Kids Korner profiles by email. Oftentimes, we will publish these profiles on our bimonthly adoption newsletter. Sign-up for the Newsletter!

Online Adoption Event

Adoption workers are invited to share information about their waiting children in an online webinar. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about children directly from workers across Ontario. Only families that have agreed to receive “adoption events” emails will receive invitations to these webinars. We also publish some of these events on our website here.

Adoption Resource Exchange (ARE) Event

An ARE can take many forms: a conference, a webinar, and an agency event. Some are exclusive to a region, in-person or online. These events often involve one or more Children’s Aid Societies. At an event, adoption workers present child profiles, and answer questions from interested families. They are a great opportunity for you to meet other workers from across Ontario. We invite you to these events directly by email, and publish upcoming dates on our website and in the Newsletter. You may register here.

Adoption Resources Databank

If you are AdoptReady, you can be added to our provincial database funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).  Even though you are not able to access or search this database for children, your adoption worker can. In addition, your worker will receive a monthly match report with children and youth in foster care that match your criteria. Are you interested in applying for the Databank? Complete this Family Referral Form, and send it to and to your family worker. A coordinator will be in touch about next steps.

Have more questions? Please contact us. We have a team of Clinical Coordinators who want to help and support you every step of the way.
