Adoption Probation

This is a legal term used to refer to the transitional period of time after the child is officially placed in the home on adoption and before the adoption is finalized. The adoption worker will visit at 7 days, 30 days, and typically every month thereafter until the adoption is finalized. The adoption worker will provide support, offer resources, and assess the integration of the child and family. By law, adoption probation must be 6 months but in public adoption, the probation period is most likely to be at least one year.
