Embracing Every Adoption Story: Navigating Challenges, Nurturing Understanding, and Honouring Relationships.

Welcome to this year’s ACO’s Provincial ARE 2024! We are delighted to be back in person again this year at our NEW Centennial College (Progress Campus) location. We are thrilled to provide a full morning of enriching education and discussions for this year’s event. We will shift gears in the afternoon to allow prospective adoptive parents and adoption professionals to connect one-on-one to learn more about children and youth seeking permanency.

Here is a breakdown of what families can expect:

  • Enriching education for all attendees. If you cannot join us in person, no need to worry, we have you covered! All live educational presentations will be recorded and posted on the Virtual Venue (third party event site) the week following the Provincial ARE.
  • One-on-one conversations with adoption workers. On April 13th, in-person conversations will take place. From April 15th – April 17th, virtual conversations will commence (please see the ‘Joining from Afar?’ tab for more information).
  • All registered attendees will have access to the ARE Online Platform to review the written profiles of the children and youth.
  • A variety of resources. If you will be joining us in person, take a moment to connect with the representatives in the Resource Village. The Virtual Venue will also house several resources for you to discover.

On behalf of the ACO, we thank you for your interest in this Provincial ARE!

This event is supported by the Adoption Council of Ontario (ACO), the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), Adopt4Life, Ontario’s Children’s Aid Societies, and Private Practitioners.

Joining from Afar?

Attendees who cannot join us in person on Saturday, April 13th, for this year’s event can still participate virtually in a couple of ways. Here’s how:

Watch the Educational Recordings

All live educational presentations will be recorded and made available through the Virtual Venue (the Virtual Venue is a virtual event space run by Midland57 where attendees can access event recordings, resources and have virtual one-on-one conversations with participating adoption workers) the week following the event. All registered attendees can access these recordings from Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 – Tuesday, April 30th, 2024.

One-on-One Virtual Conversations with Participating Adoption Workers

We recognize how important the conversations with adoption workers are. That is why we are opening the one-on-one chat function on the Virtual Venue for three business days following the event (Monday, April 15th, 2024 – Wednesday, April 17th, 2024). Here, prospective families can send direct messages and organize a time to speak to adoption workers (if they are available) wherever you are located in the province. If you cannot connect with an adoption worker during the dates mentioned above, you can submit an expression of interest form and include your questions about the specific child, youth or sibling group directly on the form.

To learn more about accessing the Virtual Venue, please navigate to the ‘Virtual Venue’ tab.

ARE Online Platform & Expression of Interest (EOI) Process

What is the ARE Online Platform?

The ARE Online Platform (accessed through your AdoptOntario account) is a time-limited feature where registered attendees can view the child/youth profiles, photos and videos (if available) and submit an EOI from.

How long can I access it?

The ARE Online Platform will be available to all registered attendees from Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 – Tuesday, April 30th, 2024.

How do I access the ARE Online Platform?

To access the ARE Online Platform, you can follow the steps below.

What is an Expression Of Interest (EOI) form?

The EOI form allows families to express interest in a child, youth or sibling group and identify themselves as a potential match. For Provincial AREs, once an EOI form is submitted, a copy is sent to the child, youth or sibling group’s adoption worker, your adoption worker/practitioner and you.

Is there a deadline for submitting an EOI form?

Registered attendees have from Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, – Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 to submit their EOI forms. Although attendees can submit EOI forms before the in-person event, we encourage prospective adoptive parents to wait until the in-person event and one-on-one conversations have concluded.

How do I submit an EOI form?

Before submitting an EOI form, please check that your AdoptOntario profile details are accurate and up to date, especially your worker/practitioner’s details, as a copy of any EOI form you submit will be automatically forwarded to the worker/practitioner linked to your AdoptOntario account. To submit an EOI form, please follow the steps below.

  1. Click here to log in to the AdoptOntario Waiting Children Photolisting
  2. Once logged in, under ARE Events, click on the drop-down menu and click on the ACO’s Provincial ARE 2024
  3. Click the green search button below, which will take you to the ARE Online Platform for this event
  4. Click on the applicable profile
  5. At the bottom of the profile, click the link ‘I/We would like to express interest in this child.’
  6. Complete the form that appears and finish by clicking submit
    1. If you have any specific questions about a child/youth on the ARE Online Platform, please submit your questions directly on the EOI form for that child/youth.
