AdoptOntario is pleased to invite you to the Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions Agency Event on September 27th, 2023. This is an opportunity for you to get to know two children who are looking for permanency. The event will begin with presentations about these amazing kids and will be followed by a Q&A period with the childrens’ workers. Register now!
Meet Mason and Aedan Mason, 12, is a captivating conversationalist who enjoys chatting with humans and animals alike! He also enjoys walking through picturesque environments to take in the beauty the natural wilderness has to offer. Despite being from a large family with many siblings (whom he has openness with), Mason will benefit from a small but committed two-parent family without other children and who are AdoptReady or in the process of becoming AdoptReady. His family will require strong skills and knowledge with respect to difficult childhood experiences and the impact on attachment. Aedan, 8, is a sweet, loving, and affectionate little one who loves being around the adults he cares about. Aedan’s future family would need to provide him with a high level of supervision and assist him in his continued learning of ASL. Aedan is able to communicate by using some basic signs, pointing to pictures, and leading caregivers by the hand to show them what he wants. A two-parent family is being sought for Aedan, who is AdoptReady or in the process of becoming AdoptReady.

Recommended Webinars and Books The Adoption Council of Ontario provides specialized training and education for all those touched by adoption and permanency journeys. There is a framework for understanding adoption and permanency journeys and all those living these journeys can benefit from this knowledge. In preparation for this Agency Event, we welcome you to watch the free on-demand webinars on Parenting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma and ACEs, the Brain & Developmental Trauma. In addition to the webinars listed above, we also recommend the book, Seven Core Issues in Adoption and Permanency, by Sharon Kaplan Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon.
What to Expect at an Agency Event At the event, you will learn more about children and youth who are seeking adoptive parent(s), as well as information and resources about permanency and adoption. The presentation will be led by an AdoptOntario Clinical Coordinator, and will be accompanied by the children/youth’s adoption worker. They will provide you with information about the children/youth’s interests, personality, needs, supports, and what permanency would look like for them. In addition, an educational component is provided to prospective adoptive parents. You will have the opportunity to hear from an adoption professional and/or adoptive parent(s) regarding their experiences within adoption.
This announcement is produced by the AdoptOntario program for prospective adoptive families and adoption workers and practitioners in Ontario. The information is intended to educate those interested in adoption about news, events and programs pertinent to their practice and/or journey.
