Pathways for Single Parents – Spring 2022

Pathways is an 8-session curriculum
UPDATE – Eligibility:
Due to our current funding guidelines, outlined by the Ministry, participants must be an adoptive parent (including parents pre adoption finalization) or a foster-to-adopt parent, to attend our free Pathways program.
Please note – we are working to make Pathways available to other parent types (Customary Care, Kinship, Legal Guardian), and hope to be able to offer them soon. If you would like to be kept in the loop on when these new offerings become available, please be sure to sign-up for our newsletter.
Location: Online via Zoom (The Zoom link will be emailed to registrants closer to the event date; please see below for technical requirements).
Time: Wednesday Evenings; 6:30pm to 9:30pm

- Session 1: April 27, 2022
- Session 2: May 4, 2022
- Session 3: May 11, 2022
- Session 4: May 18, 2022
- Session 5: May 25, 2022
- Session 6: June 1, 2022
- Session 7: June 8, 2022
- Session 8: June 15, 2022
- Session 9 (Decoding): September 14, 2022
Who: This training is for parents and caregivers where a placement has already occurred.
Cost: FREE! This course is being offered at NO cost to participants thanks to funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
Technical & set-up requirement:
- Laptop or desktop computer with functioning webcam and microphone capabilities.
- Strong/stable internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps
- In order to preserve families’ privacy and comfort levels, anyone other than another Pathways participant, should not be in the same room with you while participating in a Pathways Zoom session; this includes children and teens.

Elaine has been working in the field of mental health for over 35 years. She has experience working in child welfare and working with First Nations children. She worked for many years at the Out-Patient Child and Family Clinic at Trillium Health Partners, Credit Valley Hospital and has a private practice with the primary focus being Post-Adoption Integration work and addressing the mental health needs of children and youth who are navigating their lives as adopted children. Elaine is an experienced instructor and trainer and is an adoptive parent.

Melissa Pye is Psychological Associate at Children’s Centre Thunder Bay. She completed her undergraduate degree at St. Francis Xavier University (’03), before moving to Thunder Bay to attend Graduate School. Melissa completed her Master’s degree at Lakehead University (’06) where she studied the impact of personal strengths and resiliency on classroom behavior and performance in young students. Some of Melissa’s early professional experiences included working in Day Treatment Classrooms, and completing learning assessments however she quickly found her niche when she began practicing Dialetical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and consulting to the Short-term Treatment and Assessment Unit (STAT unit). Melissa is also an adoptive mom of two little ones so educating others about the necessity of post-adoption supports is a cause that is near and dear to her.
