Support for Birth Families

ASK Adoption Support, Kinship

ASK provided the following information for sharing with our adoption community about their organization and also about the Canadian Council of Natural Mothers (CCNM): http://askaboutreunion.org/

ASK is a volunteer run support and search group in Toronto.  They meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Room of the Bloor Street United Church,  300 Bloor Street West (north side, between St. George and Spadina).  ASK is a member of Parent Finders Canada (www.parentfindersottawa.ca).

ASK offers adopted adults, their parents by birth and adoption as well as their family members access to:

  • group e-mail list
  • peer support
  • monthly meetings
  • movie nights
  • inform members of information in the broader adoption community

There are also Ontario members who are with the American Adoption Congress (http://www.americanadoptioncongress.org). They have a good website and also run an annual conference.

Canadian Council of Natural Mothers (CCNM)

The CCNM has a great website with lots of information and also has an online support group.  There is no charge to join the online support group.  It is geared to mothers who have lost children to adoption, but adoptees, original family members and advocates are welcome to join.

The website address is: http://www.ccnm-mothers.ca/
